Powerful Porn Proofing Techniques For Your Family
"New research from technology companies suggests that children under the age of 10 now account for 22% of online porn consumption among the under 18 age while 10-14 year-olds make up 36% of minor consumers" (Bitdefender, 2016)
Don't think pornography is a problem in your home? Think again. "There was a disconnect between parents’ perceptions of their children’s pornography viewing practices and the reality: 75% of parents felt their child would not have seen pornography online, but of those children, 53% said they had in fact seen pornography."
I really didn't want to consider that my innocent kids would come across pornography at all. I tried to put up layers of filters, set appropriate rules in my home, had our computer out in our main family room, and then was devastated when I found out that it had still found its way in.
In this podcast, I'll help you know how to talk to your kids about pornography since 100% of them will be exposed by the time they're 18. We don't like uncomfortable conversations, but when someone guides us along it makes it much easier to know what to say.
We'll talk about:
- Addressing the family rules to establish safe boundaries
- Teach children what to do if/when they encounter pornography
- Establishing a trusting relationship with your child
- Approach the topics of sexuality early and directly
- What to label pornography exposure (is it an addiction?)
- Teaching emotional management
- Other resources.
In this podcast, I reference several fantastic resources for parents and children to turn to so they can get more information.
As parents, we can fight this terrible problem so we can create more peace inside our homes.
